The Area

Within the picturesque village of Kippford there is a slipway with facilities for launching boats and other craft. There are two good pubs that serve food and a small gift shop with tea room. At Colvend, approximately 2 miles away there is a well-stocked convenience store and the local town of Dalbeattie is only 3 miles away. The area has numerous local walks that are accessible without having to go out in the car.

At the top of the road there is a National Trust footpath leading to the popular seaside village of Rockliffe. Walk on further to the long sandy beach at Sandyhills. Take the car round to Auchencairn and do the Balcary Bay circular cliff walk and enjoy the spectacular views of Hestan Island.

Hundreds of sea birds can be seen nesting on the cliffs at Balcary at the right time of year. Dalbeattie Forest has the famous 7 Stanes mountain bike trails consisting of different graded trails to suit all requirements. There are several local golf courses and the famous Southerness course is only 10 miles away. Popular places to visit are the ‘Food town’ of Castle Douglas (6 miles away) and the ‘Artists town’ of Kirkcudbright, (15 miles away). as well as numerous tourist attractions.

If you like water sports there is a RYA sailing school 10 miles away at the Galloway Activity Centre, Loch Ken, where boats can be hired or sailing courses booked. They also offer archery and quad biking amongst other activities.
