2026 Easter at 2KS

We had a magical family Easter weekend in Kippford, with all of us present. Each of us enjoyed different activities.

The highlight, of course, was watching our little grandson on the beach — toddler legs utterly determined, picking their way across the sand and shells with that wonderful mix of boldness and wobble, that only a small child manages. Every shell was a treasure, every splash a victory. The adults hovering, ready to catch.

Trout Fishing at Greenhill Fishery, Dalbeattie

On Easter Saturday the rain came down steadily, but with waterproofs zipped up and spirits undimmed, my husband and daughter set off for a mornings fishing.

Greenhill Fishery sits in a lovely setting near Dalbeattie, on a small loch nestled quietly in the landscape, the kind of place that feels a world away from everyday life.

The day began with a fishing lesson, learning the basics of casting, reading the water, and handling tackle. Theory gave way to practice, and before long lines were in the water and the anticipation of that first tug began to build.

By the end of the session, they had landed an impressive five fish — a fine haul by anyone’s measure, and something to be genuinely proud of for a day on the loch. Each catch a little reward for patience and growing skill.

Easter Sunday

A morning walk to Castle Point was enjoyed by all, before our traditional family Easter egg hunt.

Our one year old grandson enjoyed an indoor hunt, with large plastic eggs filled with non edible treats – plastic cars, tractors and so on.

The adult hunt then commenced, courtesy of his parents with a lot of help from AI. We had increasingly cryptic clues to unravel, which saw us running around the house and garden. The final clues took us down to the beach where my daughter found the final prize – the Golden Egg.

Easter lunch brought everyone back together around the table — something roasted, something chocolatey to follow, and the particular contentment that comes from a day spent mostly outdoors.

Kippford at Easter: unhurried, beautiful, and exactly what a family holiday should feel like.
